Summary of project:
Legacy Sport is a Community Interest Company, which was incorporated in 2011. The social enterprise delivers PE, Sport and Health programmes in West Yorkshire, aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of young people and their families.
A distinct cycle training division delivers more than 2000 Bikeability places each year and since the demise of local authority trainers, now oversees the delivery of over 4000 places across the Kirklees Council region. Legacy Sport has helped to increase the places delivered to young people from 900 to 4,300 in the last 5 years. This has involved maximising the use of Department for Transport funding alongside a growing traded service. Although all concerned are extremely proud of progress to date, we are aware that the national delivery model does not promote equality and young people in areas of deprivation have a significant disadvantage.
Legacy Sport will work with Pulse Regeneration throughout the IMP to develop a delivery model, which removes the existing inequalities. We will introduce appropriate interventions and help our current delivery team with social impact reporting and ultimately a theory of change. A control group will be utilised to provide evidence of improved long-term outcomes for the target cohort.
